The Future of Food

Trailer Trailer

Official film description...

“The Future of Food” offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade. Shot on location in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, “The Future of Food” examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as huge multinational corporations seek to control the world's food system. The film also explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture, placing organic and sustainable agriculture as real solutions to the farm crisis.

Notes on the film...

“The Future of Food” deals with the issue of patents on life respectively GMO, illuminating the issues from many different perspectives. The film also tells the story of Percy Schmeiser and the Monsanto’s attack on his family and shows the suspicious practices of Monsanto as well as the phenomenon of revolving door.

“The Future of Food” details very insightfully methods of genetic modification. Also very impressive are various examples of health problems caused by the consumption of GMO (allergies, potential antibiotic resistance). The film opposes the marketing story of GMO being a solution in the fight of global famine – the opposite seems to be the case.

Eventually, “The Future of Food” presents the alternatives organic farming and local production with real-life examples of different farmers’ initiatives.

Further reviews...

“In the last 100 years, especially in the last 20 years, some changes occurred in the fields of agriculture and food production: instead of 100 different types of potatoes, only four of them are still cultivated; the modern corncob produces its own insecticides; and thanks to biological patents, Monsanto charges innocent farmers because the wind blows its seeds on the farmers’ fields. The solution could be so simple: all we need to do, is to watch out for what we eat.” – VideoMarkt

“A sensational and highly praised US cinema documentary, with a rather critical view on fast food and genetically modified food. 'The Future of Food' explains worrying developments in the food industry, presents facts that every conscious customer should know about, gets numerous scientists the chance to speak and warns against the spreading of American conditions. Adversary viewpoints are rather unimportant, but anyone having doubts can get information from Monsanto or can just trust the US government. For critical consumers and for those who should be critical consumers.” – VideoWoche

“This smart and entertaining documentary informs critical consumers on rather unpleasant developments and trends in the food industry.” – Blickpunkt Film
